Slipper Leaf Spring
Description
Leaf springs act as the shock absorbers of the suspension system. Their flexing action when you go over bumps and rough roads smooths the trailer ride. Slipper refers to the end of the spring that rests upon the rear hanger that is welded to the chassis and absorbs the impact going through the trailer. All though not recommended by us many trailers come with tandem or even slipper spring setups, it is quite a low cost alternative for the reason that it doesn’t share the load evenly across trailer. It is a common problem for one side of the trailer to lift shifting all the weight to one side causing it to damage the springs.
Weight capacity of slipper springs is generally greater than double-eye springs.
Fewer moving parts on slipper spring suspensions, fewer parts to maintain.
Slipper spring systems ride a little more roughly than double-eye spring systems.
